Adults & older people

Adults & older peopleThe burden of poor health is greater in North Tyneside than in other regions of England.  Whilst progress is being made, premature deaths from chronic illness such as heart disease and cancer and lifestyle issues such as consumption of harmful amounts of alcohol and smoking continue to cause concern.

As the population ages, there are likely to be increasing numbers of people with long term conditions and disability which require support from health and social care services.

In order to improve health and well-being and address this increasing need, it is important to focus both on the commissioning of effective services and promotion of the benefits of ill health prevention.  Achieving this requires a concerted effort across society.
