ChildrenJust under a quarter of the North Tyneside population is between the age of 0 and 19 years.1 Experiences in the early years have a life-long effect on many aspects of health and well-being.1

Nineteen percent of young people in North Tyneside are currently living in poverty2 and it is acknowledged that the impact of social and economic disadvantage on health starts before birth and accumulates throughout life.3

Current policy focuses on five outcomes which aim to improve the life chances for all children and young people.  These include being healthy, staying safe, enjoying and achieving, making a positive contribution and experiencing economic well-being.
